Pedal Instead is providing valet bicycle parking at:

  • OSU Spring Football 2012
    Saturday, April 21st 2012
Oh ya. The Spring Football game is here. Gates open at 10am,  Lacrosse at 11am, and Football at 1:30pm. You can't get to or from The Shoe any quicker than biking. (And since you're on your bike anyway, you might as well head down to Earth Day after the game - we are there too.) Thinking about volunteering? Click the title in red above to see open shifts. Fresh Buckeye Donuts for the set up crew. Tommy's Pizza once the game starts and the bikes are in the corral. Go ahead and eat up, you'll work off those calories doing the bike rack lift and the park & return run.

  • Earth Day 2012 Root Down
    Saturday, April 21st 2012
Pedal Instead and Columbus' Earth Day celebration have been like peanut butter and jelly since 2007. Join us at the Columbus Commons. Follow this link for more information on the celebration http://earthdaycolumbus.org/celebration/ Pedal Instead's valet bike parking is located at the corner of High Street and Rich. If you decide to enter the event from another direction, be prepared to walk your bike to the corral. Interested in volunteering to set up equipment and park bikes at our first event of the season? We thought you might be. Click the title in red above and scroll down to find a volunteer shift that fits into your busy life.

  • Market to Market Spring 2012
    Saturday, May 5th 2012
We are back (like Zombies) to support cyclists and general shoppers at the North Market stop of the Market to Market ride on Saturday, May 5th. Start your ride at the North Market and know your bike will be secure while you register, pick up your ride shirt, and snack on a yummy breakfast. End your ride at the North Market and know your bike will be well protected while you use those cool coupons in your post ride shopping. Want to volunteer to help protect bikes? This is by far the busiest small corral we host, making it one of the silliest to work, particularly when everyone is wearing a false mustache. Click “Market to Market Spring 2012″ above. You’ll immediately see a list of open shifts. Volunteer, visit with cyclists, check out cool bikes and gear, and giggle with other volunteers while we dance the clever dance required as we run up and down the aisles in this tight corral.

  • Agora 9 2012
    Saturday, May 12th 2012
For the first time, Pedal Instead will be at the 9th annual Agora art show!  The show will be held at Junctionview Studios, 889 Williams Avenue, Columbus, OH 43212 (it's near Grandview), Saturday, May 12, from 2pm until midnight.  Agora is an amazing event that allows artists, patrons, and fans to interact and features performances and hundreds of pieces of art.  If you'd like to volunteer at Agora 9, click the title in red above to see open shifts.  Whether you're volunteering or just attending, we know we'll see you AND your bike there!

  • Columbus Arts Festival 2012
    Friday, June 1st 2012, Saturday, June 2nd 2012, Sunday, June 3rd 2012
The 2012 Columbus Arts Festival starts at 11:30 on June 1. We're gonna be there. Are you? Of course you are. You're even going to ride your bike to the Scioto Mile, where we will happily babysit it on Civic Center Drive just south of Town Street. This magnificent festival features local and national artists, music, entertainment and activities for families, and yummy food. Do you know why we make all the titles red? It has been proven by the God of Statistics that human beings click on red text 99.8% of the time.*  In short, it's a clever trap to make you click on the title so that you will volunteer. If you do, you get to say "La, darling, I have been so busy supporting culture and arts in Columbus. I just don't know what to do with myself." *Also proven by Statistics: cats click on green text 37.0% of the time, blue text 33.9% of the time, and yellow text the rest of the time. Why? Just to keep you guessing. Dogs click on red text, because they believe they are human. Fish don't click. That would be strange.

  • Naked Bike Ride 2012
    Saturday, June 9th 2012
Pedal Instead is proud to be back to support the Columbus leg of the World Naked Bike Ride! The World Naked Bike Ride happens in over 70 cities in 20 countries, and is celebrating its eighth year. The ride exists to: 1) highlight the vulnerability of cyclists to automobiles, 2) protest dependence on oil, and 3) celebrate our beautiful bodies by rejecting all forms of body shame. Beginning at 8pm organizations supporting cyclist will be on hand at 400 West Rich Street to share information. The ride leaves at 11:59 pm for a slow paced 2-3 mile ride returning to the starting point upon to continue celebrating with a private party (riders and volunteers only). As in previous years riders are encouraged to BARE AS YOU DARE: Wear as little as you like.....body paint, costumes, merkins, nipple tassles..... get creative! Remember, it's as bare as you dare, but totally nude cyclists will be in good company. Anyone who thinks they are attending an orgy will be seriously disappointed. EVERYBODY IS INVITED, EXPECT HUNDREDS OF NAKED CYCLISTS! Worried about the law? Men and women are allowed to be topless in Ohio. Ohio indecent exposure statutes state that exposing your 'private parts' is illegal. Boys, if you are worried, try a sock, ladies, merkins will be available. The police are aware of the ride and even kept on eye on riders' safety last year. We won't be surprising anybody. Volunteer opportunities are available to support bike security. sign up for a shift below.

You know you do! Click the event title in red, then sign up for a shift the fits your schedule.

  • ComFest 2012
    Friday, June 22nd 2012, Saturday, September 22nd 2012, Sunday, June 24th 2012
Community Festival is three days of progressive politics, arts & crafts, music, reunions with old friends and introductions to new ones, sunshine, rain, shared dreams and shared work in a shared space. ComFest is also home to Columbus' first bike corral, is it any surprise it is always our largest? Pedal Instead will be at the northwest corner of the Goodale Park again this year (Buttles and Dennison). Volunteers earn the fabulous ComFest t-shirt, food and beverage tokens, and as always all sorts of good karma. Important shifts are always set up (Thursday 4:30 pm) and break down (Sunday 8:30 pm) and evenings (Friday - Sunday). To volunteer, sign up at www.comfest.com

  • Doo Dah Parade 2012
    Wednesday, July 4th 2012
Forget about the hassle of parking your car and the high price of gas. Pedal Instead to Doo Dah! Our bike corral is conveniently located in Goodale Park between the pond and the corner of Park and Buttles (a front row seat to parade line up and Party afterwards). Believe it or not, biking is the lazy way to travel. Imagine how long it is going to take to find a parking space, then walk all the way from that parking space to Doo Dah. Yuck! Pedal Instead - to better health, a cleaner environment, and massive ego points. Be lazy - ride your bike. Feeling a little energetic, join some crazy fun and volunteer at the bike corral! Click the title in red above and scroll down to find a volunteer shift that fits into your 4th of July party/music/drinking/eating schedule.

  • Bike the C-Bus 2012
    Saturday, September 1st 2012
Pedal Instead is back at Bike the C-Bus! (Why not volunteer?) This year it starts at the Lincoln Theater on East Long Street on September 1st. YOU should definitely be there (volunteering)! Bike the C-Bus is always a fun ride, with multiple stops along the 30 mile route. (volunteering is cool) If that still frightens you (then you should volunteer instead), you're in good company! Come volunteer with us at Pedal Instead, for fun and a free meal! Whether you volunteer or ride 30 miles, you win all kinds of bragging points (but volunteering is better)! Just like last year, call Ray George at 614-477-9142 in order to be awesome.

  • Upper Arlington Arts Festival 2012
    Monday, September 3rd 2012
The Upper Arlington Arts Festival attracts over 20,000 people every year and features 200 artists from all over the country. With 20,200 people, parking is going to be a new experience in pain rivaled only by football games and digging out your eyeballs with a spork, so be sure to ride your bike! This free event takes place on September 3, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Northam Park (2070 Northam Rd., Upper Arlington). The Pedal Instead corral is at the same location as last year (we strive for constancy as well as excellency, and frequently achieve both), just look for the blue fencing. Or, if you're that kind of person, you can plan ahead and look at the event map. As for the event, it promises to be awesome once again. It's family friendly, with activities for little spawn at numerous family concession stands around the park. In addition to beautiful art, there will be performers, music, and of course, food (always an important consideration at Pedal Instead events, all that biking can make a person hungry). Shift supervisors are needed to watch over (torment) the volunteers that will be provided by the festival. If you've volunteered before, come do it again! We'll feed you and provide hapless victims to boss around, it'll be a great time! Click the title in red above to see open shifts. Do it. Do it...
